What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi permanent form of cosmetic tattooing. It is the most natural looking technique to create eyebrows. Perfect for anyone that lost their hair over the years or just wants to enhance already existing brows. It is done by hand with a microblading pen that has a small sterile disposable blade on top which consists of tiny needles. With this tool it is possible to place pigment beneath the surface of the skin to create tiny lines that appear like real hair.
Does the procedure hurt?
A topical anesthetic creme is used before the treatment (waiting period approximately 30 min) as well as a numbing gel during the procedure which will make the process comfortable. However it all depends on personal pain tolerance - every client is different. During the menstrual cycle it is not recommended to get the treatment done.
How many sessions do I need?
Normally two sessions are required - in the first one I will answer all your questions, the perfect shape will be agreed on and I will start the blading process. After minimum 4 weeks when the eyebrows are fully healed you can do the touchup. Areas that didn't heal well - which is completely normal - will be fixed and more strokes will be added to create a fuller perfect looking brow. We can also go darker and thicker if you want! Usually two sessions are sufficient - but again depending on the skin, your existing brows and lifestyle you might need another one. This usually happens with oily skin types, extreme sun exposure or if the natural brow is very thin, doesn't have much hair growth and almost a complete brow has to be created. Please read my Am I a good candidate? for more infos.
How long does microblading last?
Microblading is semi permanent and therefore the pigment will fade over time. It approximately lasts between 1-2 years after the touchup depending on many factors such as skin type, aftercare and sun exposure. To ensure a flawless look it's suggested to get them redone once a year.
What do I have to consider before my appointment?
Do not plug, color or wax your natural brows - the more hair the better
To avoid unnecessary bleeding it is recommended to not drink alcohol or take any blood thinning medicine the day before your appointment as well as no coffee the same day
During your menstrual cycle it is also not recommend to do the procedure
If you have a new tan/sunburn you'll have to change your appointment since your skin will be more sensitive and probably peel which will take the pigment out as well
If you plan a holiday I recommend to wait at least 14 days after the procedure
No Botox 4 weeks before and after the session, Botox can impact the shape of your eyebrows immensely
How long does the procedure take?
The first one between 2-3 hours. This includes the consultation, numbing, drawing the shape and the actual microblading. The touch up takes around 2 hours.
Which pigments am I using?
I use Tina Davies Permablend Pigments, which is a well known brand in the permanent makeup industry for many years. They have a huge variety of colors so no matter which natural eyebrow color you have I will have the right one for you!
Does the pigment change color over time?
Usually it will only slowly fade with time since it is semi permanent. In any way I can never guarantee the color will stay exactly the same this all depends on your skin as well. Red is the color that leaves the body last so maybe they will turn into a reddish tone till they fade.
How will my eyebrows look right after the treatment?
Right after the treatment your eyebrows will appear bolder and darker which is COMPLETELY normal. It is a fresh tattoo therefor it will be stronger in the beginning. The next two days your eyebrows might appear even darker which is normal as well. After 3-4 days your eyebrows will start scabbing and once the scab is off they will be much lighter than before. In fact you might think your new eyebrows completely disappeared but they will be back 1 - 2 weeks later I guarantee you :) Please note that the complete end result will take around 4 weeks.
What do I have to do for aftercare?
During the first 2 days please ONLY wash the tattooed area 2-3 times a day with lukewarm water and natural soap and dry it gently with a disposable paper towel (kitchen paper). Dry healing is recommended which means no creme should be applied. In case you have very dry skin you can use a very small amount of a fragrance-free lotion, e.g Aquaphor in the morning and at night. Please don't apply any makeup, peelings, masks on the tattooed area, please stay away from the sun, as well as no work out, no beach/ocean, pool, sauna and tanning banks for at least 10 days.
IMPORTANT: don't ever remove the scabs from healing since it will cause the pigment to fall out. The scab has to fall off completely on its own. It is very important to take good care of your new eyebrows afterwards, only this way a good healed result is guaranteed.
Can you micro blade previous tattooed or bladed eyebrows?
This depends - in general a freshly tattooed or micro bladed brow can not be fixed right away. It is best to wait for them to be faded which can take up to one year. To make that decision I need to see the eyebrows before either by sending clear close up pictures or by arranging a consultation at the shop. Please note the price for previously tattooed eyebrows might be different depending on the work.
